Dual language ad unit in Google Adsense

Google non-English adDarren from problogger.net had made a post about Google Adsense displaying dual language ad units, and wondering if it’s a glitch or common thing.

As an Asian blogger myself, seeing dual language ads is pretty common for me.

The screenshot on the left is a sample of a square ad from one of my blog, showing an English ad and Korean ad on the same ad unit.

Note that the ad is showing on my webpage that’s 100% written in English, but writing some contents related to South Korea.

My hipotesis is that the advertisers are targetting their ads on English keywords that are related to Korea, but show their ads in Korean language instead.

It could also be that the advertisers are geo-targetting the ads and some glitch happens, with the Google bot identifying the visitors from the wrong countries.

The effect of dual language is yet to be known, but I think it won’t be providing much advantage for the publishers. In this case in particular, I don’t know any Korean words and thus the chance for me to click on a Korean ad is close to 0%.
