Importance of geo-targeting your audience
It’s commonly known that advertising network pays much better for US traffic, and sometimes Canada traffic as well.
Some of the ad networks go to the extend to only pay for US traffic especially those in pay per impression advertising network.
This make international audience based website short of options to monetize their website. The best option these webmasters have is Google Adsense.
Adsense although does pay for international traffic, it’s obvious that US traffic will give a better value to the webmaster.
Well it’s common sense, US citizens are the largest spender online (and offline perhaps) and their visits granted more value to the advertisers. So it’s a fair deal.
Some webmasters suggest using affiliate sales program for international visitors but again the options are limited.. as said US citizens are the one that’s buying things online.
Affiliate sales will work in US and probably in some European countries, but will hardly work in Asia or under developed countries.
A few of Asian webmasters I knew are starting on selling ad spaces themselves, and it seems like a good alternative for websites with international traffic.
What I am doing, and would advice newbie webmaster is to do some research and find a niche that could spark interest from US audience, thus will get much more options to make money from the websites.
