Overture marketing tools
One of my most used tools is from Overture, with their keyword selection tool and view bids tool. While the tools are actually meant for online advertisers, they provide some good info for web publishers as well.
Keyword selection tool allow you to find a niche within a specific topic, or to compare the popularity value within the same topic or something totally irrelevant. I always have doubts with their exact search figure, but it’s a good tool to make comparisons.
We will want to build websites with topics that interest people. There’s no point writing something that will attract less than a few thousands of visitors a month.
Also, the keyword selection tool will suggest some ideas on what to write or create. Let’s say if we want to ride on the popularity YouTube, the fastest growing website nowadays, we can search for the terms YouTube and look for what people are looking in relevant to YouTube and try to make something that provide the contents that are being search by the net surfers.
The view bid tools is to determine the commercial value of a specific content. From the perspective of making money online, we won’t want to create websites that have low monetization value.
I am not suggesting that we build websites based on the keyword bids value alone, but to avoid building websites that have low value.
I have a website that generates 10 times more traffic than another, but the money they make are almost similar, simply for the fact that there’s a big gap of advertising value for both sides.
We will have to combine both factor to find the best websites to build, in terms of popularity and value. I want to avoid building a website with good traffic but make little money, or a low traffic website with good advertising value but make no money because the traffic is too low.
We need to strike a balance and it’s something that needs a lot of trial and error, and learning. These 2 Overture tools however provided some clues on what to start and save webmasters loads of time.
