The art of linkbaiting by Performancing
I found this article by Nick Wilson from performancing.com about linkbaiting [link], on how to get incoming links without really requested for it.
The tips are not just applicable to linkbaiting, it’s traffic puller as well.
I wrote about one of the main tip just a while ago, be generous in linking out and links will come in.
Nick grouped the linkbaiting techniques into a few hooks; I’ll make some changes with the tips and share a bit on what I’ve tried and what I’ve seen from other bloggers that work with it.
Be resourceful
It’s about niche, if you write on a specific topic and write it better than most of the others, visitors will come, so will links. (Just as why I am linking this back to performancing.com)
Be the first
Be one of the first to report a news event, if not the first. To do this we will need some really good contacts or else, read a lot.
I experienced this effect first quiet often with my celebrity blog, the difference of being one of the first to write on a news are enormous to when I write it just a few hours later.
Be contrary
Everybody love Angelina Jolie? Write something bad about her and why you don’t like her, links and traffic will come.
Blog war?
This is an upgrade to being contrary, and a common technique used by various blog. That is to attack on someone/something that can actually response to your attack.
It’s not my preference to build traffic from bad-mouthing, but I’ve seen how it’s done and frankly it could be the best linkbaiting technique in short term.
Be fun
Memes, videos, photos.. create something that are interesting for your readers. People will link to your fun stuffs if you are the original creator.
If you are not a creative type of person, again be the first to spread something.
Be helpful
Provide something really useful to others. Creating free templates, plug-ins, web tools are some of the useful methods.
