What’s so special about Google Page Rank?
Some people are getting excited whenever Google Search Engine is doing their updates on Page Rank (PR). What the fuzz about PR that makes some webmaster went crazy about it?
For me Google PR is simply a representation by Google search engine as a specific value for webpage, with PR 10 being the highest while PR 0 the lowest.
Google has some explanation it in their words about Page Rank, read it here.
So what does Google PR benefit a website? The answer to the question is constantly under debate, some said that higher PR means better ranking in Google’s Search Engine Results Page/Position (SERP), while some webmasters have different arguments.
A good SERP indicates that when people type on a relevant keyword, the webpage will appear on top of the search results, or at least appear in the first page of the results.
From my personal experience good PR doesn’t guarantee good SERP, I have webpages with PR 0 that ranked above webpages with PR 6. That’s more than just PR that dictates the position in search results.
While the major criterion to determine a page PR is with incoming links and anchor words, SERP are a bit more complicated.
So what is so special about Google PR? I can’t find any good answer other than the sense of pride for some webmasters, newbies in particular. It does sounds pretty cool if some webmasters own a PR 7 or higher PR website, which will be so ‘god-like’.
I would suggest fellow webmasters to focus on contents, PR might help in somewhere to gain popularity, but content is always the king.
