Challenges for younger blogs

Darren Rowse from problogger.net wrote an article about challenges facing younger (and older) blogs, I’m always amazed by the simplicity of Darren’s simple yet precise writings.. I am going to put in my own words here.

While older blogs are facing their fair numbers of headaches, at least they are having readership or financial rewards (if they intended to), so I won’t bother much about the older blogs challenge.

The challenges for younger blogs could be much stiffer as I’ve seen some ambitious blogger who started with full of spirit ended up at no where.

Many new bloggers underestimate the time and energy needed to make a new blog noticable and successful. I often have to spend 3-4 hours on a single blog at the first month of its launching, needless to say some sleepless nights researching what niche to start on at the first place.

Working as a part time pro-blogger is an option, but do take note that it requires more than some leisure effort.

Many newbies also expected success overnight with blogging. It could happen but the chance is as low as striking a lottery. If a blogger is totally new being a webmaster, it will at least take 2-3 months to see some decent results.

Persistency and consistency is crucial in the success of a blog, read this story.. never never give up without a fight.

Blogger’s block is another common term in blogging world. I have an article on how to overcome writer’s block, and since that I myself have rarely face shortage of ideas in writing.. my tips on dealing with blogger’s block should worth some reading.

Blogging is not just about writing, it’s about learning. Do more reading, not only about the niche being written, but webmaster techniques like Search Engine Optimization (SEO), link baiting, website promotion and even some programming skills.

The main point that Darren is suggesting for new blogs is the importance of time management. It takes time for a new blog to be successful, don’t underestimate the effort needed, and don’t reach the extend of blog addiction till the point where the rest of life suffers.
