How frequent to update your blog?

How frequent should you update your blog? There’s no absolute answer to it, as different readers will have different preference.

In general I recommend blogs to be updated once daily, nothing more than that, but nothing less as well. However depends on the topic of your blog and the targetted group of readers, you might want to consider writing more, or less.

If you are writing about games, gossips, geeks, friends and fun stuffs, where your targetted group are most likely teenagers, you can consider being more active with your blog. 3-4 post a day will be fine, teenagers nowadays are great net surfers and will be able to absorb the frequency of your posting easily.

You can update your blog more frequent if your targetted group are net savvy. Topics like internet, web applications, webmaster related, tech and gadget, and professional issues will likely to gain groups of tech savvy that read blogs by using RSS readers. These group of people sometimes read more than 100 blogs (title) a day, you will probably need some good copywriting skill to get the attention of these group of readers.

Blogs that circulated on daily events, like news, politics and sports will have to update more frequent and maybe more than once a day as well.. as the readers are probably expecting new contents from a news blog everyday.

Blogs that can consider updating less frequently are hobbies and special interest related topics. Example like blogs about stamp collecting, fishing, gardening, drawing etc are most likely blogs that are being read during leisure time, and the targetted group may be working adults that could be free only during weekends. For these kind of blogs you may consider updating once every 2 or 3 days.

Other blogs that can post less frequent are blogs with a really small and specific niche, say if you are blogging about lasagna. The pool of readers are probably not that huge and you can afford to update less because your blog will most likely gain most of the lasagna fans’ visits because there are not many other people blogging specifically about the same topic.
