YouTube taking down copyrighted materials

YouTube has started taking down videos that violates copyright material, by dumping nearly 30,000 Japanese videos as requested by Japan Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC). [BBC]

Although gaining wide popularity among netizens, there has been critics on copyright infringement by the users, and the situation was not properly handled by the management team.

Things might need to change, as YouTube was recently bought by search giant Google for $1.65bn. Considering the influence of Google Inc. and their financial power, it won’t be suprising if companies and copyright ownders started filing to sue Google if they don’t act fast on taking down those videos.
