Google open office in Singapore

May 4th, 2007

Google has opened their Southeast Asian offices in Singapore which will represent ad sales in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand etc. [Searchenginejournal]

I wonder what benefits it bring to the region Google Adwords and Adsense users; I can only think of cheaper phone calls to the support department at the moment.

The online-money-making community in Southeast Asia doesn’t have a strong bond yet; we don’t see webmaster related gatherings and seminars as often as in USA and some other countries (Australia for example)… Google will have to be pro-active to organize meetings with advertisers and publishers if they want to make the Singapore office a success.

Find yourself an enemy…

An interesting article from Brian Clark - Do You Have an Enemy? Here’s Why You Need to Find One.

It’s about building rapport… that’s probably why some anti-government blogs are doing so well, because the bloggers and readers have a common enemy aka the government.

The next step for Webmaster Journey

May 3rd, 2007

I wonder how many readers are still reading this blog… from my stats, not much I guess.

This blog has been running for more some time now, and is heading at no directions. It provides me some good learning curves, and some useful links to others… but the optimization for the blog itself is pretty poor.

The blog is currently PR3; it’s a pretty low Page Rank, but I guess it’s still usable for some monetization methods.

I am going to start sponsored posting on this blog. I have doubts over the past about sponsored posting; but at the current moment… it seemed like a good option to make money from this blog. With the decent archive I have here, I think the sponsors and advertisers would be happy to have their links here as well.

If you are an RSS subscriber for this blog; I will have to apologize in advance for feeding you sponsored post in near future. What I can promise though is that all sponsored post will be relevant to webmaster issues.

Thank you.

Buying votes on Digg, workable?

March 5th, 2007

Read this article from Wired, about an experiment of buying votes to reach the front page of Digg.

1 out of 10 would work perhaps, but it ain’t cheap.

Why I unsubscribe from some blogs

March 1st, 2007

Darren Rowse compiled a list of reasons why readers unsubscribe from your blogs.

I can certainly feel the main reason of “Too many posts.” I have personally unsubscribed from some blogs that posted a dozen of new articles a day.

“Infrequent posting” however is not my concern… and I am surprise that it’s high on the list. One of the advantage of RSS is that it let me know when a blog is updated and I don’t need to check the blog to see if there are any updates. For me RSS is used to counter the infrequent posting of some blogs.

The major reason that I unsubscribed from a lot of blogs lately is because of the involvement of paid posting services like Payperpost… I just couldn’t stand having an article meant purely as advertising on my RSS reader.
